The day began at 8am when Adrian Marsden the Yorkshire Organiser arrived and immediately started to distribute election addresses in the Darton West ward, throughout the day Adrian managed to deliver an amazing 2000 addresses in the Redbrook and Gawber areas of the ward. Other local activists were arriving throughout the morning and were split into teams for either canvassing or delivering addresses.
The party chairman, Nick Griffin arrived early afternoon and after brief refreshments joined a team of activists who were canvassing and delivering addresses in Kexborough and Darton, even though we had a sudden weather change (not for the better) work continued throughout the afternoon, even a local Labour Councillor got a BNP election address delivered to him by the party chairman.
Everyone returned to The Spencers Arms (which was our HQ for the day) around 5 o’clock, for some light refreshments and to make final arrangements for the night’s meeting.
A large number of activists turned up at the evening venue at 6.30 to start arranging tables and get the stage set up ready for the night ahead, only to find that people were already turning up much earlier than expected. This again shows the support and the enthusiasm the BNP is receiving in Barnsley.

With well over 200 people in attendance the meeting was opened by the St Helens ward candidate, Lisa Brooksbank who introduced the first speaker of the night, Ian Sutton - Barnsley Organiser and Darton West ward candidate. Ian delivered a very passionate local speech referring to the ‘Welcome to Barnsley’ booklet that the council gives out to new immigrants, giving them advice on how to claim our benefits and more frightening how to register to vote. He then discussed a Labour Party election guide and how it advised Labour candidates not to mention Europe because this would upset people and advised them to target immigrant voters.
The second speaker or should I say speakers were Spennymore’s very own Walker Brothers, who delivered a number of fantastic humorous but very serious speeches. I won’t elaborate on these, if you haven’t seen them yet; get them booked or wait until they return to Barnsley.
After a short break Ian Sutton introduced the final speaker for the night, BNP chairman – Nick Griffin. Nick as usual had the audience captivated as he spoke of St George, the effects of mass immigration and the illegal war in Iraq. The speech lasted a full hour and once again ended with a full standing ovation. The complete speech will be available soon from Barnsley BNP.
