Asylum Seeker Caught Red-Handed With Opium

An Iranian asylum seeker, living in Huddersfield was caught red-handed with a £200,000 consignment of opium.

Ghulam Reza Salimi, 49, of Clare Hill, Huddersfield, who came to the UK eight years ago was jailed for nine years after admitting conspiracy to supply 20 kilos of opium, destined for the 'members of the Iranian community.'

Also jailed for seven years was Naser Gholami, 32, of Atherton Grange Court, Leeds, who admitted the same charge.

Both were appealing against the length of their sentences.

So, Ghulam has been an asylum seeker for 8 years, maybe now is the right time to process his asylum claim along with the Iranian community living in Huddersfield.
