Immigrant slashed prostitute's throat in Sheffield

A CZECH immigrant slit a prostitute's throat with a kitchen knife and left her for dead after paying for sex, a court heard.
Jiri Machac, aged 23, grabbed 29-year-old sex worker Kelly Turner, from Rotherham, around the neck and slashed her with the 12inch blade off Allen Street, Shalesmoor, Sheffield.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Miss Turner was left screaming and bleeding heavily while Machac fled the scene.

Michael Smith, prosecuting, said the prostitute was approached at around 1.20am last July by Machac, who lived on Upper Allen Street, after moving to Sheffield from Czechoslovakia.

He said the pair walked to a walled area surrounded by bushes and Machac paid her £20 for sex.

Miss Turner told jurors Machac indicated she should leave before him.

"I stepped onto the wall with one foot," she said. "He grabbed me from behind.

"He cut me down my throat. I was pulled backwards, he chucked me to the floor. He jumped over the wall and just stood looking at me."

Miss Turner said she dialled 999 on her mobile after telling her partner, Adrian Holden, she had been cut. She said Mr Holden would call every night, keeping the line open to check on her while she worked.

The court heard police recognised long-haired Machac's description and arrested him the next day. Officers found a blood stained shirt and jacket at his flat.

At the station, Machac said in Czech: "Very sorry, I didn't want to do it", Mr Smith told jurors.

Machac claims he decided to rob Miss Turner after sex and put the knife to her neck, but slipped, cutting her by accident. Machac is charged with wounding with intent.

He has admitted unlawful wounding and attempted robbery. The trial continues.
