They were given 9,979 of the 147,000 social homes dished out in 2008-9, the House of Commons Library revealed – 10% up on the previous year.
Tory MP James Clappison, 53, said: “This is one more aspect of the pressures created by immigration, at a time when people are waiting many years for a tenancy.
“The system must be ripe for review. It will strike a lot of people as strange when UK citizens are waiting up to 10 years for a home.”
