Campaign to Save Barnsley

.
Barnsley has always had a very solid working class image, often summed up in days gone by with the phrase ‘cloth caps and whippets’. It’s known by its inhabitants as ‘Tarn’ and has it’s own distinctive dialect, broader than any other in Yorkshire, and not easily understood by people from other areas of the country. It has a great coal mining heritage going back many hundreds of years, although the mining industry itself has now sadly been lost. Unlike cities such as London and Birmingham most of the population of Barnsley were born and brought up in the town. It has its own unique character and style, and is still a very traditional English town in many ways. It may even be said to be the last stronghold in Yorkshire for the indigenous working class people - we don’t have any Asian or Black areas as most other towns and cities in Yorkshire do.

So how are we to defend the unique character that Barnsley has against the Labour Party that wants us to be an amorphous multicultural clone of every other town and city in Britain?

The main problem for the BNP is that people in general prefer to be optimistic in outlook, to look on the bright side of life. It’s human nature to be positive, to think everything’s under control, to think that everything will be OK - it’s the only way we can cope with the world. People don’t want to look too far ahead, only to live for today and to enjoy themselves today.

But problems have a habit of sneaking up on you. By the time you’re aware there’s a problem it’s often too late to do anything about it. The BNP is trying to warn people that a big problem is developing in this country. The BNP is saying that if we don’t do something now everything won’t be OK in 20 or 30 years time.

People can see that living conditions are reasonable in this country at the moment, and imagine that things will always be like this for their children and their grandchildren. But are things OK right now in the third world? In much of Africa and Asia there are major problems, unimaginable in this country. There is widespread poverty and many people do not have enough to eat or have a very poor diet. Law and order is often non-existent, women are mistreated and violated as a matter of course, job security is nil, for many people housing and healthcare is of a very low standard, and many areas are severely run down. Basically they are dangerous, dirty, poverty stricken hell-holes.

The question to ask is who created these conditions? The answer is the people who live there, and that’s why they want to come and live here – to enjoy the good conditions we have created here.

There are at this time thousands of influential people speaking up for the ethnic minorities in this country: but who is there to speak up for the future generations of British children, as yet unborn? Only the BNP. We are the only people saying that if you import millions of third world people Britain will eventually become a third world country itself. So who is right? Who is holding the moral high ground? Our opponents claim it’s them, but we are standing up for our own children’s future. Not someone else’s future – our own kids. How can there be a morally superior position to this?

If we were allowed to speak the truth about the situation in Britain then everyone would be on our side, but we’re not. We can’t put the truth about the ethnic minorities on our leaflets because it’s against the law to do so. It’s hard to believe but in this country it’s currently illegal to tell the truth, and you can go to prison if you do.

So how do we save Barnsley from the Labour Party and from the disaster that they are bringing upon us? We can campaign on the issue of immigration and asylum, and point out all the serious problems that it causes and will cause in the future, but this will only reach a certain percentage of people. What exact percentage this is, is still undetermined. The remaining people prefer to go around with their eyes shut, thinking happy thoughts, and pretending that everything will be OK. If we’re going to win over these people we need to fight on other fronts too.

One way forward is to become experts on the subject of Barnsley itself. There are over 230,000 people living in the Barnsley Borough. There’s a lot going on. Much can be learned by carefully studying the local newspaper, the Barnsley Chronicle, every week. There are many issues that are important to people, many events taking place every week, a great deal to understand about life in Barnsley. We should study who the main employers are in our town now that the mining industry has gone. We should study the profile of the population; many statistics must have been collected over the years.

We should also study how our local Government works, what departments there are, how many employees they have, who is in charge, what budgets they have. Study who the elected Councillors are, what are their backgrounds, who are the main Council spokesmen on different subjects. The BNP Organiser in Rotherham, Marlene Guest, knows council procedures inside out, and as a result she has caught them on many occasions doing things they shouldn’t be. We should be following her example.

It will take time for us to learn about Barnsley in detail, but it will be time well spent. As a political party we will feel more in touch with the people of Barnsley and in time they will recognise this and vote accordingly.
