Growing numbers of mosques must obviously mean a growth in the muslim population in Oldham.
Since 1991, the Muslim population has risen steadily. In 2001, there were more than 24,039 muslims residing in Oldham making it the 16th highest in England and Wales.
The 2001 Census revealed that the muslim community constituted 11.1% of the town’s overall population making it Oldham’s 2nd largest faith group.
Population projections research indicates that the town’s muslim population is likely to experience more births than deaths. By 2021 this group is expected to form 21% of the town’s overall population.Read more about the islamification of Oldham HERE
